Personalised Brass Compass Gift | Custom Engraved
A personalised engraved vintage brass compass might seem like a slightly odd gift.
Most of us use Google Maps now.
But nobody buys a compass like this because they need directions to the supermarket. You give it to someone because of what a compass represents: finding your way, heading somewhere new or knowing where home is.
My wife gave me one years ago. On the top was a Tolkien quotation she knew I would love. Inside, she had added her own message:
So you can always find your way back to me.
Then she signed her name.
Mine didn’t come in a fancy box. I didn’t care. I still have it, and I still think it was one of the best gifts she has ever given me.
That is the idea behind this compass.
It is a custom engraved brass compass, but the real value is in the words you choose to put inside it.
Personalise Your Brass Pocket Compass
We can engrave both sides of the lid.
The outside is best for something short: a name, date, coordinates, initials or a few carefully chosen words. We can also add a compass rose or another simple design.
The inside is where the personal part goes.
It could be a message for your partner, a few words for someone leaving home or a reminder to a graduate that they don’t need to have everything worked out yet.
There is no compulsory script. Write what you actually want to say.
If you’re stuck, these may get you started:
- Always find your way home.
- For every adventure still to come.
- Wherever you go, I’m with you.
- Choose your own direction.
- Never be afraid of a new path.
Or write something that would make no sense to anyone except the person receiving it. Those messages are often the best ones.
That personal touch turns a small nautical gift into a keepsake they may still cherish years from now.
A Brass Compass Gift for More Than One Occasion
A personalised brass compass can work for an anniversary without becoming another piece of heart-shaped giftware.
It also suits graduations, retirement, milestone birthdays, Father’s Day, anniversary gifts and Christmas gifts. Give one to somebody moving interstate, travelling overseas or starting a new job.
A compass is about direction, but that doesn’t mean the message has to be serious.
You could engrave one for the family member who is always getting lost. Add the coordinates of the pub. Remind your husband which way home is.
It is your gift.
An Antique-Style Brass Pocket Compass
This is a round brass pocket compass with an antique bronze finish. It has a hinged lid, pointer dial and traditional metal chain.
Closed, it measures approximately 50 mm across and 17 mm thick. It weighs about 75 grams.
That is small enough to carry but heavy enough to feel like a proper object rather than a plastic promotional giveaway.
The compass comes with:
- A vintage-style brass case
- Clear acrylic face
- Pointer dial
- Hinged lid
- Metal chain
- Engraving outside and inside
- Natural drawstring pouch
The pouch is deliberately simple. It protects the finish, looks right with the old-fashioned compass and doesn’t leave you paying for a bulky wooden box you may not want.
This pocket compass is sold as a keepsake. Don’t rely on it as your only navigation instrument halfway through the bush. That is what proper hiking equipment—and a charged phone—are for.
Laser Engraved on the Sunshine Coast
We prepare and laser engrave every compass at Laser Crafting Co on the Sunshine Coast.
Your compass can be engraved with names, important dates, coordinates or a special message. We can also add a simple nautical design without making the lid look overcrowded.
The engraving is permanent. There are no vinyl letters to lift at the edges and no message printed on a slip of paper inside the lid.
Because the engraving area is round, shorter wording usually gives the best result. A complete novel will not fit. A sentence or two generally will.
If your message needs adjusting to remain readable, we will contact you before engraving it.
The antique finish can vary slightly between compasses. One may be a little darker or show more variation than another. That is normal for this vintage-style finish.
Engraved Compass Gift Ideas
For a graduation, add the graduate’s name and year outside. Inside, write something about choosing their own path.
For an anniversary, the outside could show your coordinates or wedding date. The message beneath the lid can stay between the two of you.
A retirement compass could mark the date that work finally stopped deciding where Monday morning went.
For someone leaving home, engrave the coordinates of the place they can always return to.
This is also a good compass gift for men who are difficult to buy for. It is personal without being decorative clutter, and useful-looking without pretending to be a power tool.
Adding Your Engraving
Enter the wording for the outside and inside when placing your order.
Please check the spelling of names, dates and coordinates. We will engrave what you enter, and brass does not come with an undo button.
If you want a simple image included, choose one of the available designs. We will arrange the words to suit the space rather than squeezing everything into one tiny line.
Once engraved, the compass is checked and placed in its drawstring pouch.
It isn’t a large gift.
It doesn’t need to be.
